We are incredibly excited to have launched our first-ever social media campaign, “60 Days of Summer & Supplies”! The campaign will take place through July and August, and our goal is to collect enough materials through contributions and art supply donations to provide Family Art Nights at all of our partner schools for the upcoming school year.

P.S. ARTS Family Art Nights are a community outreach effort to engage multigenerational family members and the community in our programs and the arts. These events feature free, hands-on family themed arts projects.  We started Family Art Nights in spring of 2011 and they have been a huge success ever since.  This past school year, we provided art for more than 2,000 children and parents through 13 Family Art Nights. With your help of ensuring new art supplies, we can provide for even more!

That is how we came up with “60 Days of Summer & Supplies.”  We thought it would be a great way to keep our followers and contributors engaged in our organization during the slower summer months.  We love that there are always opportunities to make a difference, even if school is not in session!

P.S. ARTS will regularly post different ways you and others can help us reach our goal.  Just think: $50 could provide brand new paintbrushes for 3 Family Art Nights.  We promise the children and parents will thank you!

In the meantime, check out this (adorable) video, “The Life of a Paintbrush,” created by our lovely Getty Museum intern, Neyat.  It shows you how far a simple contribution can go.

In the words of Steve McCray, a P.S. ARTS Board Member and Principal of William Green School in Lawndale, at our Board Retreat earlier this year, “I call it ‘The Refrigerator Test’: Without P.S. ARTS, there would be a lot of empty refrigerators.  Something is happening in these families’ homes and in terms of helping these children discover their identities.”

Cheers to a successful summer of collecting new art supplies!
