P. S. ARTS To Go! Block Printing

About the activity:

Block printing is an ancient art practiced by many cultures. While historians believe that block printing on fabric started in China 4,500 years ago, block printed fabric from Jaipur, India might be the most famous. Artisans carve designs into wooden blocks, which are then covered in ink and pressed onto fabric to create a repeating print. These are called "relief prints" meaning that the part of the block that makes the design stands out from the surface.

Materials needed:

  • White paper
