Meet P.S. ARTS’ Director of Institutional Giving, Brent, who recently joined our team. Find out what Brent is reading and learn about their interests through the interview below.

Hi, I’m Brent and I manage P.S. ARTS’s grants program and its other institutional funding initiatives. For the most part my work involves identifying and applying for corporate, foundation, and government grants, as well as reporting on our successes once we’ve received funding. I started working at nonprofits, specifically on grants, over eleven years ago. Prior to that I worked in the publishing industry.

What book is currently on your nightstand?

Catch-22, by Joseph Heller, which I don’t think that I’ve read since high school. It seems appropriate given the current zeitgeist. I’m on the board of a thrift store nonprofit, and when I visit there I always pick up a random book that, once I’ve finished reading it, I re-donate to another nonprofit.

Where is your favorite place to view or take part in art in Los Angeles?

The Getty Villa. I lived in New York City for a long time and loved visiting the Cloisters, and the Getty Villa has a similar feel.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work?

I’m learning to play the sitar, which has been really fun and challenging, and I also enjoy reading, primarily fiction.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would like to visit the Sundarbans in West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is the largest mangrove forest in the world, and, because I studied coastal ecosystems in graduate school, I would like to witness this incredible one.
