This month, P.S. ARTS is highlighting a variety of events and activities that support our local arts organizations and inspire community members to explore the city. Los Angeles has long been a hotspot for creativity and the arts, and this year, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on the events that make the season so vibrant.
Learn about and engage with the arts in Los Angeles this January!
In this free, drop-in, perfume-making workshop, you can create your own perfume inspired by an ancient recipe from Pylos, in southern Greece. Build custom perfumes by exploring the spices and oils favored by the Mycenaeans, some of which are still in use today, and discover how these materials were applied in antiquity. The event is free with a reservation to the Getty Villa. Please note there is a fee for parking, but visitor reservations are free.

John Birtle (b. 1985, Long Beach) brings a bold and evolving exploration of authorship, images, and collectivity to his art. Working across drawing, sculpture, and installation, he reimagines everyday objects, highlighting both their utilitarian and aesthetic qualities, revealing how they connect people in unexpected ways. More is More, his first solo institutional exhibition, restages an installation first conceived in his studio. In it, Birtle combines drawings, artist books, and sculptures like puzzles, kaleidoscopes, and dice to create a dynamic environment that fosters connection among viewers. Admission is free!
