March is Women’s History Month, an opportunity for us to celebrate the contributions women make to the world every single day. Below are some events in Southern California coming up this month that you can enjoy with your friends and family to learn about and celebrate women’s historic contributions to the arts!


Thursday, March 14, 3-4PM: Women’s History Month: Mae Jemison.

Join the Gardena Mayme Dear Library to celebrate Women’s History Month as we learn about Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space. We will create a paper spaceship and make greeting cards to celebrate a woman in your life. This event is designed for children ages 5 – 12 with a parent or caregiver accompanying them. Sunday, March 17 4-7 PM: HERstory: In Honor of Women’s History Month FASHION IN MOTION.

Debbie Allen proudly presents HERstory: in honor of Women’s History Month, a month-long celebration of the power of women. Showcasing a rich collection across fine arts, film, music, dance, and fashion, HERstory transcends perspectives as this celebration documents a diversity in heritage that parallels identity, femininity and the connection of our inner and outer worlds. Tuesday, March 19 4-5PM: Women’s History Trivia & Art.

Celebrate Women’s History Month with fun trivia about famous women throughout history, then create a Frida Kahlo-inspired self portrait using a photo and your own creativity! This program is designed for teens. Learn more here.

Wednesday, March 20 4-5PM: Women’s History Month: Paint Like Georgia O’Keeffe.

Celebrate Women’s History month at the Lloyd Taber Marina Del Rey LA County Library and learn about artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Best known for paintings of flowers, we will paint in her style and learn about her contributions to modern art. Supplies are limited so plan ahead and come early if you can. This event is designed for children ages 5 – 12 with a parent or caregiver accompanying them. Learn more here.

Saturday, March 23 11AM-12PM: Women’s History Month: Coasters.

Head over to the Compton Library to learn about amazing women in history while decorating your own coaster. All supplies are provided. Attendance is limited, and advance registration is recommended. Learn more and register ahead of time here.
