This June, P.S. ARTS is uplifting Pride month with a compilation of events and exhibits celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community’s contributions to arts and culture. The LGBTQIA+ community has long heralded what it means to authentically express the person that you are and the role of art and creativity in expanding human rights.
Learn about youth oriented events around Los Angeles so the whole family can celebrate Pride!
Wednesday June 12, 4-5 pm @ Lake Los Angeles Library – Pride Art Coasters
Decorate wooden coasters with pride flags for your own Pride Month keepsake. Learn the history of Pride month and the meanings of all of the different Pride flags. For teens ages 13 – 17.
Wednesday June 12, 4-5 pm @ Compton Library – Celebrate Pride: Pride Family Storytime
Celebrate Pride with a Pride-themed family storytime, craft, and more. Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. Please register every individual in your party, including kids. This will be used to save your spots in the program!
Saturday June 15, 2-3 pm @ Lawndale Library – Pride Month: Keith Haring
Learn about American artist Keith Haring’s life and work, and create your own Keith Haring-inspired artwork for Pride. This activity is for ages 13 – 17.
Saturday June 29, 11 am – 12 pm @Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library – Pride Month: Rainbow Bracelets
Learn about the history of Pride Month and then create your own rainbow bracelet (or any color combination you like)! All supplies will be provided. Recommended for teens.
June 9 – August 4 @ HAMMER – Refashioning: CFGNY & Wataru Tominaga
Visit the Hammer Museum’s latest exhibit featuring art by two multidisciplinary fashion designers. View clothing, accessories, textile based works and more pieces, all exploring how fashion can challenge our assumptions about gender identity.
