This year, P.S. ARTS has taken significant strides in deepening our commitment to centering DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) in our work. At a time when many organizations scaled back or paused their DEIB initiatives, P.S. ARTS chose to amplify their efforts, engaging staff through focused sessions working within subcommittees to bring these conversations more directly into our work.

On March 16, P.S. ARTS staff participated in a DEIB workshop led by Darya Shaikh, a partner at Leaders’ Quest, a global social enterprise that supports leaders across sectors in tackling complex systemic challenges. During the session, Darya guided staff through strategies for generative conflict including showing how to navigate disagreements in ways that strengthen relationships and drive meaningful solutions.

Through the workshop, staff explored tools and strategies for transforming conflict into opportunity. Shared resources included a conflict curve, nonviolent communication practices, and practical tips for managing difficult situations. By combining reflection, communication skills, and awareness of interpersonal dynamics, P.S. ARTS team learned that disagreements can become a space for understanding, creativity, and stronger partnerships. This workshop reinforced a core value for the team: that building a culture of belonging isn’t just about harmony, it’s about learning to navigate differences with empathy, skill, and intention.
