P.S. ARTS To Go! Robert Blackburn Stamp Printing with Ms. Isabel

About the activity:

Learn about stamp printing and create two works of art inspired by the artist Robert Blackburn. Blackburn was an artist and teacher who was really known for his printmaking and the printmaking workshop he started in New York City. He'd often created sets of printed works that used the same shapes and colors but slightly different backgrounds due to their orientation, like what we'll be doing here. For this project you'll need: two pieces of the same-sized paper, oil pastels or crayons, acrylic paint, a paper plate or some sort of paint palette (a piece of cardboard also works), and small found objects that you can cover in paint that you think have a cool texture or shape (such as rubber bands, cotton swabs, leaves, plastic silverware, bubble wrap etc.).

Materials needed:

  • White paper
  • Oil pastels
  • Liquid tempera or acrylic paint
  • Paper plate
  • Small disposable objects like plastic knives
  • Rubber bands
  • Cotton swabs
