About the activity:

Jasper Johns was born in Georgia in 1930. Though he never took formal art lessons, he knew as a child that he wanted to be an artist. Jasper Johns painted objects that were easily recognizable by the average person. He painted objects like flags, targets, maps, and numbers. These paintings were not meant to show Johns’ opinions, but were made to show objects we see everyday in a different context. Today, we will be making a painting similar to Jasper Johns’ painting, 0-9, which was painted in 1960.
