Characteristics of Public and Private Elementary and Secondary Schools in the United States Here is a look at the number of minutes students receive in each discipline from 2017-18 according to teacher and principal surveys. While public schools come in around 60 minutes per week, 15%+ schools reporting having zero minutes, which is not included in the weekly average. U.S. Department of Education
