Donzell Lewis

Donzell Lewis is a highly acclaimed youth theater educator/director, actor, and comedian, known for his exceptional talent and dedication to the arts. With a BFA in Performance and an MFA in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University, he possesses a strong educational background to support his diverse skill set.

Donzell’s remarkable achievements have earned him recognition and accolades within the theater industry. He was honored with an Honorable Mention for Excellence in Theatre Education by The American Theatre Wing for the 2019 Tony Awards. Moreover, he was featured in American Theatre Magazine’s esteemed “6 Theatre Workers You Should Know” online series in 2020. In addition to his accomplishments, Donzell has showcased his acting abilities as a cast member on the groundbreaking television sketch show, “The Book of Queer,” aired on HBO MAX and Discovery+. He has also made appearances in commercials for esteemed brands such as Hyundai and Warby Parker. Throughout his career, Donzell has performed extensively in Los Angeles area theaters, demonstrating his passion and versatility on stage.

With over 15 years of experience as an educator and teaching artist, Donzell has consistently proven his ability to design, deliver, and evaluate exceptional arts education courses. His approach is guided by a commitment to radical inclusivity, acknowledging and respecting diverse cultural legacies, challenging euro-centric standards, and engaging in courageous conversations that drive social change. Donzell believes in creating spaces where all voices are seen, heard, and validated, nurturing the next generation of theatre makers. Notably, Donzell has dedicated a decade of his career as a Theater Teaching Artist for P.S. ARTS, where he has successfully implemented a comprehensive theatre program for grades TK-5, ensuring inclusivity for students of all abilities, including those with special needs. His exemplary service at P.S. ARTS has laid the foundation for his transition into his new role as Curriculum and Instruction Specialist. In this elevated position, Donzell is eager to channel his unwavering commitment to expanding the reach of arts education in schools, communities, and the lives of students.
