On July 30, the P.S. ARTS team gathered at our new offices in the Children’s Institute for a inspiring day of food and exploration in Historic Filipinotown. The day started with a scavenger hunt organized by P.S. ARTS Deputy Director, Elda Pineda. Teams were given landmarks to explore around the city, where they learned about local history, took photos, and picked up pre-ordered food from nearby restaurants.
Once back at the office, each team presented what they’d found, sharing fun facts, photos, and the food they brought, enjoying local flavors together. After some presentations, staff enjoyed a delicious lunch sponsored by P.S. ARTS Board member, Shelton Wilder.
After lunch, P.S. ARTS staff member, Sr. Program Manager for Educator Development, Jasmine Jackson, led an arts-integration demo that included tap dancing with math, demonstrating techniques teachers can use to bring more arts into classrooms. After the arts integration workshop, Elda lead the group through a hands-on printmaking workshop, during which each staff member created their own artwork that they later displayed outside the office doors.
Overall, the staff day was full of fun, creativity, and learning, as well as being a great reminder how art and community connects us to each other.
