P.S. ARTS had the pleasure of collaborating with the Estrada Courts Housing Project this week on a special Family Art Night (FAN), hosted at the Estrada Courts Boys & Girls Club Recreation Center. This introductory event was designed to bring together senior residents in a creative, welcoming environment, laying the groundwork for a larger intergenerational arts program in the community.
The idea for this partnership began earlier this year, when our colleagues at CII connected us with Estrada Courts as they sought out enrichment opportunities for youth and families living on site. Yesterday’s FAN served as an initial step toward building relationships and exploring the potential for a more sustained series of community artmaking experiences that connect senior and youth residents.
P.S. ARTS Program Manger of Extended Learning, Francisco Uribe, led the art activity, while Lucas Esperanza, Program Coordinated, assisted with logistics and communication leading up to the event. The energy in the room was warm and hopeful, and we were grateful to see residents engaged and eager to participate.
This model of intergenerational programming is one we’ve seen thrive in the past—most notably through P.S. ARTS’ collaboration with EngAGE—and we’re excited by the possibility of creating something similar here with Estrada Courts. As we continue conversations with the community, we look forward to shaping a program that supports creativity, connection, and well-being across generations!
