On Friday, October 17th, Delta Air Lines invited their staff and community partners to plant trees to celebrate the 2028 Summer Olympics opening in 1,000 days. To kick off Delta’s overall goal to plant 1,000 trees in Los Angeles before the city hosts the Olympics, hundreds of volunteers–including members of the P.S. ARTS staff–came together at the Jackie Tatum Harvard Recreation Center in South Los Angeles to plant 100 trees.

With guidance from local nonprofit Tree People, volunteers learned all the steps it takes to plant a tree, from digging a hole to giving it a name once planted. P.S. ARTS staff members Ceci Arana, Gaby Palmadessa, and Olivia Yamamoto planted five trees together and even named one after P.S. ARTS’ mascot, Arty!

Thank you to Delta for inviting us to such a special community event. During our time volunteering, we got to connect with Delta staff, community members who frequent the park, other community organizations, and even Olympic Gold Medalist and native Angeleno Brenda Villa! It was incredible to take part in one of the many Delta gives back and celebrate the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles!
