P.S. ARTS debuts two new Murals at Ánimo
Florence-Firestone Charter Middle School
and Equitas Academy 4
This past year, P.S. ARTS Teaching Artists and students had the opportunity to do something incredible: use their freedom to imagine and their power to create to design and execute beautiful murals for their communities!
Two of our partner schools, Ánimo Florence-Firestone Charter Middle School, serving the Florence-Graham community in South Los Angeles, and Equitas Academy 4, serving the Pico-Union community in Central Los Angeles, worked with P.S. ARTS during the 2025-2026 school year to create, design, and paint vibrant murals that celebrated and reflected the beauty and spirit of their respective neighborhoods.
At Florence-Graham, students utilized the full force of their artistic expression, decorating the mural with a variety of symbols, motifs, and characters that were personally and communally meaningful. Across the scene are rolling hills and houses, a lion (the school’s mascot), and bright yellow duck sporting a Dodgers cap.
At Equitas, students were guided by P.S. ARTS Teaching Artists Jacinto and Alejandra with the prompt, “Pico-Union across time,” to create a stunning display featuring symbols and images emblematic to the Pico-Union neighborhood. Students highlighted a number of botanical references iconic to the neighborhood, like the California poppy, cempasúchiles, and palm trees.
We’re so grateful for these students and school partners for letting P.S. ARTS be part of these special projects, and we hope to continue working together to create more beautiful works of art that make our communities shine!
