Saturday, May 2, 11 am – 2:30 pm @ The Jerry Moss Plaza: The Music Center’s Very Special Arts Festival: Family Day

Get ready for a day of fun, music, creativity and play at The Music Center’s Very Special Arts Festival: Family Day! Parents, guardians, caregivers, kids and their friends are invited to this one-day outdoor festival where families of all abilities will enjoy an exciting lineup of live music and dance performances, interactive art-making activities and a magic show, all in a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere. Join us on Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center for an inspiring and memorable Saturday exploring how the arts unite us all! This is a free event.

Saturday, May 9, 9 am – 3 pm @ Japanese American National Museum: 2026 Nikkei Children’s Book Festival

Celebrate Asian American, Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian Heritage Month, Children’s Book Week, and Kodomo no hi (Japanese Children’s Day) with JANM’s second annual Nikkei Children’s Book Festival.

This year’s festival highlights heroes of all ages who have strengthened our community and made it special in big and small ways. Explore the breadth and diversity of children’s literature across the Nikkei community with author and illustrator storytimes, signings, and meet-and-greets, arts and crafts for all ages, and a special pop-up bookstore from the JANM Store. world. This is a ticketed event.

Friday, May 15, 11 am – 12 PM @ Topanga Farmers Market – Kids Music Class

Join beloved music teacher Brafo for a joyful kids’ music class under the magical oak tree. Drums and shakers provided—just bring your best dance moves and flow with the rhythm! We kindly ask for a $15 donation per family (cash or Venmo) to support Brafo and help us continue offering amazing kids’ programming at the market.

Before or after music class, walk up to the Topanga Farmers Market (open 9-1pm) and shop the 45 organic farms, specialty food makers, vintage collectors and artisans. Teach your children where there food is grown and enjoy our warm and inviting canyon community.

This is a free event, suggested donation amount of $15. 

Sunday, May 17, 10 am – 4 PM @ UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden: Clarkia Flower Festival

Join the UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden on Sunday, May 17 and celebrate nature with a day of fun activities connecting you to your community! With engaging activities for all ages, the festival is a powerful platform to connect participants with the environment, share knowledge about sustainability, and create lasting memories. Art activities include a paper poppy mobile making event and a botanical art illustration activity. This is a free event.

Saturday, May 30, 10 am – 12 pm @ Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory: Cartoons & Cereal

Join artist JYNX for Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory’s longest-running program, Cartoons and Cereal. On the last Saturday of every month, they showcase a classic Saturday Morning Cartoon while you enjoy a breakfast cereal buffet.

This month, catch “DC Superhero Girls” the last Saturday of May. In addition to drawing with friends and families, youth will also learn about careers in animation and cartoons through this engaging introduction to the creative arts industry. This program is offered free to all participants. All supplies will be provided. Breakfast will be served. All ages are welcome! Please RSVP so they can prepare food and supplies.
