As the school year begins, we invite our CEO, John Lawler, to share a few words as P.S. ARTS enters its 35th year!
Dear P.S. ARTS Family,
As we begin a new school year and celebrate P.S. ARTS’ 35th anniversary, I want to take a moment to reflect on where we’ve been, where we are now, and the exciting path ahead.
In these pivotal times, the arts are essential in the lives and learning of children. Creativity, confidence, and critical thinking are not just classroom skills—they are tools and lifelines to be used for years to come. This year’s theme, which is also the P.S. ARTS motto, “The Freedom to Imagine, The Power to Create,” reminds us of the critical impact of our work. At a time when young people face escalating social and emotional challenges, and schools are navigating deep pressures, arts education is not just relevant—it’s crucial.
At P.S. ARTS, we are committed to advocating for students, supporting school communities, and making sure every classroom is a place of acceptance and joy. We share a responsibility to protect and nurture students. Schools must be safe spaces where children feel seen, valued, and free to express themselves. Through our programs, we don’t just teach creativity—we affirm every student’s right to belong and thrive.
I’m thrilled to share that P.S. ARTS is serving more students and schools than ever before. In just two years, our faculty has doubled in size, reflecting the growing demand for the high-quality arts education we provide. Even with this rapid growth, our commitment to excellence has never wavered—every lesson, every project, and every interaction reflects the creativity, care, and support that define P.S. ARTS.
- To our Teaching Artists: You are the heart of this work. Your talent and dedication inspire students to see the world in new ways and express themselves with courage. You not only enrich their lives but also strengthen communities.
- To our staff: You are the backbone of P.S. ARTS. Your behind-the-scenes efforts ensure our programs run smoothly, and while your work may not always be visible, it is always essential.
- To our school leaders: Thank you for your partnership and trust. Choosing to prioritize the arts is an investment in a brighter, safer future for your students and community. Together, we are preparing a generation of creative thinkers and leaders while ensuring classrooms are places where all students can learn and grow.
As we step into this year, let’s build on the momentum we’ve created together. Let’s continue to innovate, inspire, and uplift our students—showing them that through the arts, they can dream and build new worlds and ways of being.
Thank you for your commitment to our mission. I’m proud to share this journey with you and excited for the impact we will continue to make in children’s lives!
